How to find a profitable eBook Niche
As discussed, in order to win first page placement for your eBook niche on Google’s search engine you must have more relevant content and more quality links then your competitors.
The above template when completed will show you for a given eBook niche the number of content pages created in competing urls (web sites) as well as the number of links back to the competing url (web site), necessary to get first page placement. With this information, we will have a feel for the amount of work required to win this eBook niche. That is, how much content and how many links will it take to effectively compete for these top positions on Google’s first page?
Let’s assume that we have been brainstorming using Google’s keyword tool as described on the last page.

Let's pretend you found a niche that looks interesting (model engine) so you noted the Keyword on the template and input the size of the eBook niche into the above template as I have done below.
Now you must find the top five sites for this niche. So, input the keyword into Google’s search box and hit search. Google will return a page of ten sites with the top five listed first. Click on the first listing and go to this site. Copy and paste the url from your browser’s url box into the template. Do the same for the next four. I have listed the top two in the template above.
Now you must find the total number of pages that each of these sites contains. Into the Google search box type “site:” without the quotes. Do not forget the full colon. Next copy and paste the first url from the template behind “site:” The search box should read, site:http://www.ronsmodelengines.com/
hit search and you will be presented with the first ten pages from the site. On the top of the page you should see:
Search - About 30 results (0.08 seconds)
30 is the number of pages built on this site. Put the number of pages into the template as I have done below. Of course, if the site owner built more pages since I created this web page then your results may vary.
Now you must get the number of links that link back to the site. Unfortunately, Google discontinued the use of this tool (I wonder why) but Yahoo search still allows us to ascertain the number of links to a site. So go to Yahoo search. (www.yahoo.com)
Type “link:” without the quotes into the search box. Do not forget the full colon. Next copy and paste the url from the template behind “link:” just like you did for “site:” The search box should read,
link:http://www.ronsmodelengines.com/
Now you need to be careful because “link:” returns a list of all links including links from within the site you’re working with. This could be a link that sends us to the top of one of the pages or sends us back to the home page etc. We only want links that link into the site from the outside world. So, be sure to check the side box that allows you to get links only from this site. The box looks like this:
Show Inlinks:From All PagesExcept from this domain
Lastly, divide the monthly number of searches by the number of links for each url and place this number under the heading “Competitor Index”. We use this number when comparing one niche to another.
Complete the analysis for the top five or six sites Google gave first page placement. Use the note area to jot down such things as: Is the site a commercial site? How has the site been monetized – AdSense Ads, Affiliate Links, Finders Fees, Referral Fees, Commissions (Drop Ship Goods), Hard Good Sales, Software Sales or Info Product. Is this one page from a much larger site? After completing the template you will have a good feeling for the size, competition and quality of the eBook niche.
Knowing that one person can build approximately 10 to 12 quality content pages a week or about 40 pages per month and that a good link program can deliver around 20 links every two or three weeks once the program gets going, we have a way to judge the work and time necessary to “build out” the niche and compete for first page placement. Keeping in mind the niche’s size and profitability, we now have a system to decide on which niche to spend our time and money on.
Later, I rate, rank and discuss over 15 niches using the tools here. Every niche is unique. But I promise, if you use this eBook publishing system to look at a lot of keyword niches, patterns will emerge that you can use to create wealth publishing eBooks.
